Talent and Scholarship Pageant

OFFICIAL RULES AND REGULATIONS

  

1.         Participant must be a resident of Temple's surrounding cities or counties in which the local pageant will be held for a period of six months prior to the pageant.  This rule is waived for those participants attending school where the pageant is held.

 

2.         Participant must be single, never have been married, and of good moral character.

 

3.         Participant must be a high school graduate, a college student, or a high school senior attending school.

 

4.         A participant shall have reached her 17th birthday and must not have celebrated her 22nd birthday as of August 1st of the year of her participation.

 

5.         The pageant shall follow the following format:  1)  Parade of Contestants, 2) Poise and Charm 3)Talent Competition, 4) Intellectual Functioning and 5) Finale.     Participant must display a maximum four minute performance of Talent.  Talent may be singing, dancing, playing a musical instrument, dramatic reading, sculpture, modeling, drawing, designing, or any area which lends itself to stage presentation.  Intellectual Functioning presents all contestants with one question that has been prepared by the pageant committee. 

 

6.         Participant must be an amateur.  Professional singers, dancers, musicians, artists, or performers are not permitted to participate in the Shrine Talent and Scholarship Pageant.

 

7.                   The College Tuition Assistance Scholarship and Awards to the winners of the Pageant are as follows: Winner $1,000.00, 1st runner-up $250.00 and runner-up(s) $50.00. All contestants will receive consolation prizes and a trophy.  Any awards granted by the Desert or Imperial competitions would be in addition to those specified above.

 

8.                  The Winner is required to participate in the State Competition.  Failure to participate in the State Competition will result in forfeiture of the Scholarship award and all other rights.  A runner-up, respectively, will have the opportunity to represent Omar Temple and receive the Scholarship.

 

9.                   The College Tuition Assistance Award for the Winner will be paid to the contestant in two equal installments by check within thirty (30) days after providing proof of registration for following quarter or semester.  The College Tuition Assistance Award and Ad proceeds for all other contestants will be paid to the contestant by check within thirty (30) days after providing proof of registration for following quarter or semester. Failure of any Scholarship Winner to exhaust Scholarship Awards within two consecutive years after being awarded it shall terminate their rights thereunder; any balance of Scholarship Awards remaining shall remain in Omar Temple's Scholarship Fund.

 

10.               The participant should construe the trips to the Desert and Imperial Shrine Talent and Scholarship Pageants as an opportunity to portray her talent as well as an "ALL EXPENSE FREE VACATION."

 

11.               The room and meal accommodations of the winner at the Desert Competition will be designated when, where and by the Director of the Talent and Scholarship Pageant.

 

12.               Contestants may compete, as many years as she wishes provided that she does not violate the Rules of Participation or win the Pageant.
